Prior to becoming an administrator, I was a classroom teacher for 5th and 3rd grade for seven years and loved my time in the classroom.

I am excited to continue my educational career at Coe Elementary and recognize the impact of the community on the school and the school’s effect on the community. I look forward to learning and working with the families, teachers, staff and community at Coe Elementary.

Perkins, Shawn

Instructional Assistant

scperkins@seattleschools.org

I have been a part of the Coe community for over 10 years - as a parent, a volunteer, and now as an Instructional Assistant in the Resource Room. I was born and raised on the East coast and received my Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College. I’ve called Seattle and Queen Anne home since 2003. I have tremendous respect and admiration for the Coe staff and love our amazing students and families. When I’m not at Coe, you can find me at kid activities for my son, Ryan and daughter, Jordan – or, walking my dog, Sailor. I look forward to continuing to give back to Coe, who has given so very much to me and my family over the years.

Madison Russell

Russell, Madison

1st Grade Teacher

mrrussell@seattleschools.org

My name is Madison Russell and I am looking forward to another year here at Coe! After receiving my degree in Elementary Education from Seattle Pacific University, I taught English in Italy and spent some time traveling. Upon arriving back in Seattle in 2019, I began teaching third grade at Coe. Since then I have also received my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. My favorite part of teaching is watching students become passionate about new topics and exceed their own expectations. When I’m not in the classroom you can find me gardening, reading in the corner of a coffee shop, or out on walks taking in the scenery.

John Taylor

Taylor, John

School Counselor

jrtaylor@seattleschools.org

I am honored to be Coe’s School Counselor. I believe deeply in the power of self-agency and the strength children possess to overcome challenges. When kids recognize the power in their ability to make positive choices, they can unlock the potential to accomplish anything. I approach counseling through a cognitive-behavioral lens, emphasizing that while we can't always control what happens to us, we have the courage and strength to choose how we respond.  Raising a child truly takes a village, and I believe that collaboration among all stakeholders in a child’s life (families, teachers, and the community) is key to fostering an environment where children can thrive. This collaboration and investment needed to support all our learners is evident in the staff and school community here at Coe. Coe Elementary is a special place, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

My experience is deeply rooted in my past upbringing in Seattle, where I developed a strong sense of pride in being a Seattleite. Attending St. John's in Greenwood and high School at O’Dea.  I also earned my MA., Ed. specializing in School Counseling from Seattle University. Every day, I am motivated by the opportunity to support and guide the next generation of thoughtful leaders.

Mark Taylor

Taylor, Mark

Math Specialist

mdtaylor@seattleschools.org

I work with students in grades 3-5 and love exploring lesser known math ideas:  Ethiopian Multiplication, Native American Trigonometry and anything with a fun name, like Zeckendorf's Theorem or The Schubfachprinzip.  I learn as much from students as they do from me.  Math is everywhere: on the playground, at home, and especially in the grocery store.

In general my philosophy is that if you think you can or think you can't, in either case you're right!  (spoiler alert: you CAN).
