    AL= Advanced Learning: Building based programs that serve students with a district designation of Advanced Learner (AL) or Highly Capable (HC).

    BLT = Building Leadership Team: A school’s advisory and decision-making group consisting of grade level staff, specialists, parents, and administration that meets monthly. Significant roles of the BLT are development of CSIP and approving the school budget.

    CCC = Center for Collaborative Classrooms: Seattle Public Schools’ recently adopted literacy curriculum.

    CLT = Career Ladder Teacher: teachers that serve to support their colleagues within a leadership capacity. They help design and lead professional development opportunities at the school and mentor beginning teachers.

    CCL = Collaborative Literacy Leader:
    teacher leaders who support staff in the implementation of the district’s new literacy curriculum: CCC.

    ELL = English Language Learners: Students who have been identified as needing additional support learning English.

    IEP = Individualized Education Program: An IEP is a written statement for a child with a disability that is developed, reviewed, and revised in a meeting in keeping with certain requirements of law and regulations.

    MAP = Measurement of Academic Progress: a computer-based, district required K-2 assessment in reading and math that adapts to each student’s learning level—precisely measuring student progress and growth for each individual.

    MAZE = a group-administered reading assessment that measures fluency of silent reading and low-level comprehension of passages

    MTSS = Multi-Tiered System of Support:
    a systemic, continuous- improvement framework in which data-based problem-solving and decision making is practiced in order to support student needs. MTSS offers different levels of academic and nonacademic services and supports based on individual student needs.

    ORF- Oral Reading Fluency

    PD = Professional Development: a wide variety of specialized training, formal education, or advanced professional learning intended to help administrators, teachers, and other educators improve their professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness.

    PLC = Professional Learning Community: A team of educators that collaborate for instruction determining essential standards, creating and administering ongoing assessments of student understanding, reviewing data, and providing supports and extensions for students needing them.

    PBIS = Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports: a group of educators that meets regularly, shares expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.

    QPS = Quick Phonics Screener: a reading assessment used to measure proficiency in the area of Phonics

    SBA = Smarter Balanced Assessment: A computer-based and adaptive assessment for students in 3-5 grades that measures proficiency in reading and math.

    SMART Goal = Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely

    SIT = Student Intervention Team: A team of parents, teachers, specialists and our psychologist that meet to consider whether an identified student may require extra support or be considered for evaluation to determine special education qualification.
