Instrumental Music

Seattle Public Schools offers instrumental instructional to all elementary students in 4th and 5th grade who voluntarily enroll in the program.

Lessons are typically scheduled for 30 minutes, once a week during school hours. Coe’s teacher is Lindsey Dustin. She can be reached at lrdustin@seattleschools.org.

The School District pays for one half day of instrumental music instruction and the Coe school budget pays for an additional day. This second half day is paid for through a tuition of $250 per year. Scholarships are available for those unable to pay due to financial need. Instruction takes place in small instrument-alike groups. During the 2012-13 school year the day of instruction is Thursdays.

The program provides instruction on the following instruments: flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, violin and cello, with the inclusion of additional instrumentals as time permits. SPS provide instruments to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. An estimated 1300 instruments per year are loaned district-wide. Every attempt is made to ensure all students can participate. Instruments will be provided to students enrolled in the FRL program on a first come, first served basis.
